Leighton Meester, Queen B Blair Waldorf on CW’s “Gossip Girl,” is reading “Holidays on Ice” by David Sedaris.
What it’s about: The autobiographical humorist applies his sharp wit and dark humor to the holidays in six short stories, including his classic 1992 debut, “SantaLand Diaries,” chronicling his stint working as a Macy’s elf.
What Meester says: “The title seems appropriate – basically, everybody’s an alcoholic. It’s just a bunch of different stories about Christmastime, and how it’s not necessarily the most cheery time. Everybody’s got problems. He’s talking about Christmas in New York … about how his family will be sending really ridiculous greeting cards … working as an elf in Macy’s. It’s just these funny little modern, witty tales. I actually like David Sedaris a lot and I’ve read all of his books except this one.”
